Arzuaga Gran Reserva Ribera 2001
Brand Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro
This robust and finely structured red shows powerful tannins and layers of mature red and black fruits, with wonderful body and rich sweet fruit. Accents of cedar and eucalyptus add complexity and a certain vanilla-like sweetness.
Arzuaga Gran Reserva is an excellent D.O. Ribera del Duero wine made by Bodegas Arzuaga Navarro in Quintanilla de Onsimo.
A coupage of Tinto Fino (95 percent) and Cabernet Sauvignon (5 percent) from old vines in infertile, clayey soils rich in limestone. Poor soil and the harsh Spanish weather conditions at this altitude result in scarce yields but also in very concentrated wines.
Harvest takes place manually and the grapes pass through a selection process before being de-stemmed and crushed.
Alcoholic fermentation of Arzuaga Gran Reserva is carried out in wooden containers while malolactic fermentation takes place in new French oak barrels, where it will age for 40 months and be racked three times.
