While in Vaucluse in France, I was fortunate to stumble upon the wines of Nelly and Alain Ignace. They produce superb wines of the appellations Beaumes de Venise and Vacqueyras . Nelly Ignace’s family were wine growers in Vacqueyras and Alain's parents owned vineyards in Beaumes de Venise. Alain’s father and grandfather were both farmers and he grew up in the fields and later discovered the art of wine production. Their 13Ha area of vineyards are split into 9 ha of Vacqueyras and 4 ha of Muscat de Beaumes de Venise. Organic viticulture has been employed on all of their vines for the past 15 years and they are now certified organic. Until 2010, the grapes from their vineyards were delivered to the cooperative in Beaumes de Venise, where Alain was the president for 28 years. The first bottling at the domain was 2011. Muscat de Beaumes de Venise is made in a small cellar near their home in Beaumes, and are considered by some top sommeliers in France as the reference for Beaumes de Venise - especially the rare Muscat rouge of Ignace. The Vacqueyras is made in a cellar south of Beaumes de Venise where other producers also make their wines, and each cuvee is based on vines dating back to the 1940s. These wines can be found at the following 3-star rated Michelin restaurants: Guy Savoy - Paris, Restaurant Pierre Gagnaire - Paris and Troisgros - Roanne.
